JAMB:Size and spjecies of snake that swallowed JAMB'S money

February 19, 2018
Our first task is to determine the species of snake that invaded
JAMB’s office. There are 81 species of snake in Nigeria; my
professor once told me that only 11 of them are poisonous. So
if you encounter a snake in Nigeria, the chances are 86.5%
that it is not poisonous. Some sceptical readers will however
say when I encounter a snake, how do I know that it is not the
13.5% off chance that it is poisonous? There are certain
indicators, such as what we biologists call “warning colours”
but if you don’t know these colours, you should better vote
with your feet.

Snakes bite for only two reasons: food and defence. Snakes
bite people mostly when they step on them. If you step on a
poisonous snake, it might decide to deliver to you a “dry bite,”
that is, bite you without injecting the poison. This is because it
has either squandered its poison elsewhere, made a mistake
in coordinating between biting and injecting poison, or
because it decided not to waste its poison on you because
you are too big to be eaten. A snake is not foolish. When it
moves about shooting out its forked tongue, it is “smelling” for
other animals and also detecting heat emitted by a warm-
bloodied animal. The snake can determine both the direction
and size of the animal nearby. If it is too big to be eaten, the
snake will change direction. Now, for a snake’s forked tongue
to detect either the smell or heat emitted by a sack of money,
locate its direction and size, stealthily approach and swallow it
suggests that something went wrong with the snake’s
biological set up.
Mint naira notes have a sweet smell but they do not ordinarily
emit heat, not being what we call homoeothermic or “warm
blooded” in Biology. In fact naira notes do not have blood, as
far as I know, apart from the single mercury strand that The
Mint inserts in a note as proof that it is genuine. I suspect that
the naira notes at JAMB’s Makurdi office were freshly minted.
Naira notes rolling off the Mint are quite warm. It must be that
heat that deceived our dear snake, which mistook the JAMB
money for food and swallowed it. Since this event happened
in Benue, maybe herdsmen had a hand in it. Benue is the
Ground Zero of herdsmen’s activities; it could be that the naira
notes were transported to Makurdi on the backs of cattle. A
cow’s backside is very warm and the offloaded naira notes
will be emitting heat long after the cow crossed back into
Nasarawa State to feed and drink because of the Anti Open
Grazing Law.
The puzzle is, most snakes in Nigeria feed on grasshoppers,
mice and rats and could not possibly swallow a wad of naira
notes. In any case, snakes first sneak up on a moving animal,
strike it dead before they begin to swallow. If it is a python, it
would first wrap the animal in a coil and squeeze it to death
before it swallows. My fear for Mrs Philomena Chieshe’s
account is if a python wraps a sack of money in its coils and it
does not sense movement, it would simply uncoil and move
on. After all, the Benue State Assembly has not yet banned
open grazing by snakes in the Benue River valley.

>>>Click here to earn money for free<<<

We must now determine the snake’s size. The largest snake in
Nigeria is the African Rock Python, sometimes called Sheba’s
python because the biblical Queen of Sheba kept them as pets.
I do not know if our sister Mrs Philomena Chieshe’s name was
mentioned in the Bible, which could explain why she is
attractive to snakes. Now, one Nigerian man has already
stated that the size of a sack containing N36m depends on
whether the money is in N1,000 or N500 notes. If it is in what
Abeokuta market women call “one with two heads” [i.e.
N1000], then N36m is only 360 wads of notes. A six foot
python might be able to swallow this sack whole. If the money
was in N500 notes then we are talking of 720 wads. A rock
python may have trouble swallowing 720 wads, unless it fed
fat on River Benue banks after the cows left.
Quite possibly, this JAMB snake was imported from abroad. It
could either be a Reticulated Python imported from Asia,
or a Giant Anaconda imported from Brazil’s Amazon
jungle. Either of these pythons could grow to be as long as
Dangote Cement truck. To them, JAMB’s sack of money is but
a small snack. I really pity our sister Mrs. Philomena Chieshe
because her racing to the Police Station to seek help will be of
little use. Even before the current fuel scarcity, most police
patrol vehicles that you see parked by the roadside have no
fuel in their tanks. So, before the police can get a few gallons
of fuel and race to JAMB’s office, the python would have
digested the money.

A python has one of the most powerful stomach juices in the
Animal Kingdom. Unlike a human stomach that could be upset
by a meal of beans, a python’s stomach can digest bone, hair,
horns and hooves. When a python swallows an animal, all that
is left after some hours is a tiny drop of excrement. Such a
stomach will make short work of JAMB’s naira notes including
the paper, colours, pictures, wrappers and mercury. Sorry
Professor Oloyede; your N36m is now but a drop of python

JAMB:THE FACT US THAT NO SNAKE SWALLOWED 36 MILLION NAIRA

February 18, 2018
Last weekend, a story broke that a mysterious snake had
swallowed over N36million belonging to the Benue State
office of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board
(JAMB) in Makurdi.
While many pondered the veracity of the tale, some
believed it was aimed at creating a diversion to shield a
fraud.

>>>Click here to earn free money<<< Meanwhile, Sunday Vanguard investigations have revealed that the tale may have been designed to cover up a fraud in the Board after the immediate past Registrar, Professor Dibu Ojerinde, launched a probe into the finances of JAMB across the 36 states of the federation. “The missing money was not swallowed by a snake contrary to the story making the rounds in the traditional and social media”, an official in the Makurdi office of JAMB, who chose to remain anonymous, said. “I can take you round our premises and even the toilets to see if there is anything like a snake here. It was a dummy sold to the public by those responsible for what is at best a tale by moonlight. “The truth of the matter is that we had a case of a female accounts officer who was accused of diverting M36million belonging to the Board to her personal use and tried rather ridiculously to claim that a snake swallowed the money in this office. >>>Click here to earn free money<<< “I know for sure that an audit of the finances of JAMB was initiated by the immediate past Registrar, Professor Dibu Ojerinde, about two years ago and, in the course of that audit, some issues were raised concerning the funds of the Board in the state. “When the new Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, took over sometime in 2016, he continued with the probe and that was what led to the discovery of the disappearance of the N36million. “I must state that what we are hearing today did not just happen; it took place before the exit of the last Registrar and it happened over a period of time. “It took place when we were still selling scratch cards to enable prospective candidates buy our forms. “The official at the centre of it all has been transferred to Abuja. She was moved when the discovery was made last year and she is believed to be helping in the investigation. “So it is not that a snake swallowed any money here. That tale was cooked by whoever did maybe to sell a dummy or to divert attention. “The fraud was said to have been executed with the connivance of some cafe operators and other JAMB officials. “But the claim that some cafe operators had been arrested for questioning over the matter is something I cannot confirm. “And nobody can draw any conclusions until investigation is completed”. >>>Click here to earn free Money,<<< Saying the system of buying scratch card to procure JAMB forms by candidates has since been replaced, another official at the Makurdi office said, “What we now do is to sell what we call pins in designated banks, post offices and cafés and to those who prefer to use credit card with which prospective candidates are able to access our Direct Entry and Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME, forms for registration.” Asked if the accounts officer fingered in the scam had any records of fraud, the senior official said, “I cannot really say but I can say that she was diligent in discharging her responsibilities and nothing whatsoever gave her away as a fraudulent person until this story broke out”. When Sunday Vanguard visited a cyber cafe in Makurdi metropolis whose owner was said to have been arrested in connection with the fraud, a man, who claimed to be the manager and gave his name as Izuchkwu, confirmed that his boss was invited for questioning in Abuja about two weeks ago and was yet to return. >>>Click here to earn free money<<<

“I do not want to speak on the matter again because we had
talked about it earlier in the week, but I learnt that my boss
has been arrested over an issue that has to do with fraud in
the Makurdi office of JAMB”, he said.

“But I know that he is innocent because we usually sell
scratch cards and pins for JAMB and if anything went
wrong in the course of the business, it will certainly not be
from a cafe operator but from officials of the Board.
“We are however waiting for his return to have a clearer
picture of what happened and the true position of things
and why he was arrested”.

When contacted, Benue State Police Public Relations
Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police Moses Yamu,
said the matter was not reported at the state Command.

JAMB FIXES MOCK DATE AS FEBRUARY 26......

February 18, 2018
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) on
Sunday said the much anticipated conduct of the 2018
Mock Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME)
would now hold on Feb. 26.

JAMB-CBT-Centre
The board’s Head, Media and Information, Dr Fabian
Benjamin said this in an interview in Lagos.
According to him, a total of 245,753 of the 1,652,795
candidates that registered for this year’s UTME are
expected to write the test.

>>>Click here to view this advertisement<<< “We are happy to announce to the public that the board has concluded arrangement for the conduct of the mock UTME, slated for Monday, February 26 “This is irrespective of the ongoing strike embarked upon by members of non-academic unions of federal universities nation wide. “Candidates will soon be informed on when to print notifications for the examination and in addition, notifications will be sent through e-mails and text messages on the schedules of their examination,” Benjamin said. He explained that the examination was expected to be hitch free because the board had successfully reduced incidences of malfunctioning of computers by electronically integrating the systems to see their functionality and effectiveness through link tests. >>>Click here to view this advertisement<<< “What this means is that, at the end if the exercise, whatever system that is not seen will not be used for the mock examination. “The 2018 exercise sold a total of 1, 966,918 candidate generating profiles. “In previous examinations this number of candidates would have paid for the forms but through our efficient and effective system of ensuring that candidates do not waste resources, we decided to introduce the profile generating regime. “By this method, candidates will first have to generate personal profiles before proceeding to obtain pins, in between which they are open to deciding whether to go ahead to pay for the registration documents or otherwise,” Benjamin explained. The main UTME is expected to hold nationwide from March 9 to March 17 Is this article helpful?? If yes Share with your friends using the comment section below >>>Click here to earn free money<<<

JAMB: ANOTHER 26 MILLION NAIRA MISSING

February 14, 2018
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has
uncovered another fraud of N26 million allegedly
perpetrated by its former Nasarawa State coordinator,
simply identified as Tanko.

The development came barely one week after the board
uncovered a N36 million fraud allegedly perpetrated by its
Benue State sales clerk, Philomena.
Tanko was said to have embezzled the money he generated
from the sale of the scratch cards hitherto used by
candidates to either gain access to the JAMB website for
registration or other services.

JAMB spokesman, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, told newsmen in
Abuja that the former Nasarawa State coordinator had
apologised to the JAMB audit team for his inability to
account for the money for unknown reasons.

The officer, in his confessional statement, claimed that the
unsold scratch cards were burnt when he was involved in a
car crash, even as he failed to account for the ones he sold
before a ban was placed on the use of scratch cards in
2016.

>>>Click here to earn money for free<<<

JAMB’s head of media said that the Economic and Financial
Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the police had been invited
to assist in recovering money allegedly stolen by its officials
in the Abuja headquarters and the state offices.

He said: “In JAMB, we have nothing to hide. We run an open
door system, where the public must have unfettered access
to information, positive or negative, present or past.

“The fact remains that the officer in question in our Benue
office and many others found in similar situations in some
other states diverted the funds before the coming of
Oloyede.

<a href="http://c.jumia.io/?a=77221&c=574&p=r&E=kkYNyk2M4sk%3d&utm_source=cake&utm_medium=affiliation&utm_campaign=77221&utm_term="><img src="https://jumia.com/affiliate-program/banners/Jumia Nigeria/Best Price on Jumia/320x180.jpg"/></a>

“But, be that as it may, management is working assiduously
to arrest and hand over to the appropriate quarters this
snake that swallowed our N36 million and a host of others
still in our system.”

JAMB REACTED TO A STRANGE SNAKE THAT SWALLOWED MONEY IN JAMB OFFICE

February 12, 2018
The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, JAMB, has reacted to a bizarre report trending of a snake swallowing N36 million from the vault of one of its state branches. The board said the case was that of pure criminality and fraud on
the part of one of its staff.

Nigerians on social media have also been reacting to the
disappearance of the cash in JAMB’s Makurdi office.
According to a report in online, a mystery snake was said to have sneaked into the accounts office of the Board in Makurdi and ‘stolen’ N36 million cash. It was also reported that a team of
auditors was dispatched to different state offices of JAMB to
take inventory of the sold and unsold scratch cards and recover whatever money that might have either been generated or mismanaged during the period of the sale.

JAMB candidates usually purchase
scratch cards to gain access to the
Board’s website for either
registration or for checking their
admission status. But new reforms
introduced by JAMB registrar,
Ishaq Oloyede, who assumed office
in 2016, ended the use of scratch
cards, replacing it with more
efficient and effective platforms.

“A sales clerk, Philomina Chieshe,
told JAMB registrar and his team
that she could not account for N36
million she made in previous years
before the abolition of scratch
cards. In the course of
interrogation, Philomena denied
the allegations that she stole the
money but confessed that her
housemaid connived with another
JAMB staff, Joan Asen, to
“spiritually” (through a snake)
steal the money from the vault in
the account office”, the report
said.

The spokesperson of the board,
Fabian Benjamin, said there was
indeed a case of fraud and
criminality in the Benue State
office.

According to him, the registrar demanded the
sale of scratch cards should be stopped in order
to curb corruption.

“It is natural for the office to account for what
they have after the sale of scratch cards has
been stopped and we discovered that lots of
money was missing in Markurdi and other
offices,” Mr. Benjamin said.
He said investigation was ongoing to determine
the kind of punishment that will be given to
the suspect(s) involved.

“There are procedures in the civil service so
the whole thing is still under investigation. She
was queried, she appeared before disciplinary
committee, although she confessed that money
was missing and a snake swallowed it.
Unfortunately, she is calling one Joan’s name
which did not appear in the investigation at all.
Joan only recommended a house help for her,”
he said.

“Of course, the management did not believe the
story. She is just trying to put an excuse
forward. These are things the registrar is trying
to unravel to put the board on the right footing.
We had a case where one of the staff said he
had an accident on his way and the scratch
cards got burnt but only for us to discover that
they were used because they all had serial
numbers,” he said.

Apparently reacting to the bizarre report, the
anti graft agency, the Economic and Financial
Crimes Commission, EFCC, on its official twitter
page @officialEFCC jocularly said: ”an eagle
(EFCC) shows no mercy for money-swallowing
snake(s).”

A Twitter user ”Mr. aye Dee” said: ”I wonder if
people realise the hungry snake that wanted to
register for JAMB but ended up eating N36
million from the JAMB office in Makurdi did
this prior to 2015.
“This naughty snake was discovered ONLY
because Buhari’s admin decided to audit
finances of JAMB offices nationwide.”

Another user, Imoh Umoren, said: ”This is a
strange country. November 2008: satellite we
built for 40 billion disappears. September 2004:
Ship laden with 30,000 barrels of oil disappears
August 2017: Rats chase the President out of
office February 2018: Snake swallows 36
million from JAMB. I need a beer.”

A user, Wale Adetona, said: “What kind of
snake entered JAMB’s office and didn’t bite the
gateman or the clerk but went ahead to
swallow N36 million?”

NIGERIAN CELEBRITIES REACT TO CLAIMS HAT SNAKE SWALLOWED N36m IN JAMB OFFICE

February 11, 2018

The controversy surrounding the mystery snake that sneaked
into the account office of the Joint Admissions and
Matriculation Board, JAMB, in Makurdi, Benue State and
swallowed N36 million cash seems to be far from over

It had been reported that an account staff, Joan Asen
and a lady outside JAMB allegedly connived to steal the
money “spiritually” through a mysterious snake that always
crawled into the office to swallow the money from the vault.
This development has raised eyebrows and stirred

BUHARI'S AIDE SPEAKS ON CLAIMS THAT SNAKE SWALLOWED N36m IN JAMB OFFICE

February 11, 2018
Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Digital
and New Media, Tolu Ogunlesi, has spoken on the mystery
snake which purportedly sneaked into the account office of
the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, in
Makurdi, Benue State and swallowed N36m.

It had been reported that an account staff, Joan Asen
and a lady outside JAMB allegedly connived to steal the
money “spiritually” through a mysterious snake that always
crawled into the office to swallow the money from the vault.
Reacting to this development, Ogunlesi on his verified twitter
page threw more light to the amount remitted by JAMB in
the spate of 6years
.
According to him, 51million was remitted into federal
government accounts between 2010-2016, yet 36m was
found in an office.
According to him, the report was as a result of auditing
being carried out at JAMB state offices.

He wrote “A sales clerk, Philomina Chieshe, told JAMB
registrar and team that she could not account for N36m she
made in previous years… Philomena confessed that it was
her housemaid that connived with JAMB staff to “spiritually”
steal the money from the vault in the accounts office.
“Recall that this same JAMB remitted only about N51 million
to Govt Accounts between 2010 and 2016.

“In 2017, under new management appointed in 2016, it
remitted N7.8 Billion. Now that new management is carrying
out audits at State offices, and stories that touch are
emerging.”

SEE NIGERIANS REACTIONS TO A SNAKE THAT SWALLOWED 36 MILLION NAIRA IN JAMB OFFICE

February 10, 2018
Nigerians have reacted to reports that a mystery snake
sneaked into the account office of the Joint Admissions and
Matriculation Board, JAMB, in Makurdi, Benue State and
swallowed N36 million naira.
It had been reported that an account staff Joan Asen
and a lady outside JAMB connived to steal the money
“spiritually” through a mysterious snake that always crawl
into the office to swallow the money from the vault.
This development has raised eyebrows and Nigerians have
been voicing out the views.
Below are some reactions to the story;

@Ugatoba, Which party does this snake belong to? APC or
PDP?

@lordkabba, JAMB QUESTION- 100 marks. Calculate how
long it will take a snake to swallow 36,000,000 Naira. If the
Bank notes are either in 100, 200 or 500 denomination and
tabulate the chances of the snakes survival using the APC
formula.

@em_kalan, I pledge to Nigeria my country…to never be
surprised when I see such news…a whooping 36million. The
people doing us are mad.

@ favorandCee, The snake was a member of Goodluck’s
cabinet. It should be probed.

@ yay_tunes, Kai…how can I suffer to be a Nigerian like this.

@Saintlumy, Nothing should surprise one in this country
anymore.

@newscanttell, What name are we going to call the snake
now? It’s definitely no anaconda.

@lohs_21, On this episode of animal farm, corruption blues.

@Ejike, Why dey born me for this kind country, Nigeria is
such a joke.

@prodigy023, Benue people can lie die. First it’s herdsmen
that don’t exist now it’s a snake that swallows money not
eggs.

@mozartard, Mehn….they are not even putting effort in the
lies anymore.......

BREAKING NEWS: A STRANGE SNAKE SWALLOWED 36 MILLION CASH IN JAMB OFFICE

February 10, 2018

A mystery snake is said to have sneaked into the accounts office of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, in Makurdi, the Benue State capital and made awaywith  N36 million cash.
Before now, JAMB candidates purchased scratch cards from JAMB state offices and other designated centers, to gain access to the Board’s website for either registration or to  check their admission status but the reforms introduced by JAMB registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, recommended an end to the use of scratch cards.
A team of auditors was dispatched to different state offices of JAMB to take inventory of the sold and unsold scratch cards and recover whatever money that might have eitherbeen  generated or mismanaged  during the period of the saleof  scratch cards.
On their visit to Makurdi office of JAMB, a sales clerk,Philomena's Chieshe, told JAMB registrar and his team that she could not account for N36 million she made in previous years before the abolition of scratch cards.
In the course of interrogation, Philomena confessed that it was her housemaid that connived with another JAMB staff,Joan Asen, to “spiritually” steal the money from the vault in the accounts office.
She said: “I was one of the four sales clerks attached to JAMB office in Makurdi. My responsibility was to sell scratch cards to candidates and not involved in handling the revenues. It was the responsibility of Joan Asen and my other  senior colleagues. I only remit money when am done selling the cards.
“Few months ago, there was issue of fraud in the Makurdi office. Auditors were sent from Abuja to carefully flip the record books of the office, to perhaps, ascertain the current state of affairs.
“The state Coordinator, Obilo, was not around when the audit team came. But in the course of the audit, N36 million was discovered to have been missing from the account.
An investigation was launched. In the course of the investigation, it was discovered that Joan Asen, who is account staff and a lady outside JAMB have connived to steal the money.”
Philomina in her confessional statement said that Joan Asen and  her accomplices confessed that they have been stealing the  money “spiritually” through a mysterious snake that always sneak into the office to swallow the money from the vault .
According to her “It was a mystery to me too. I have been saving  the money in the bank, but I found it difficult to account for it. So I started saving it in a vault in the office.
But each time I open the vault, I will find nothing. I became worried and surprised how the millions of Naira could be disappearing  from the vault. I began to interrogate everybody in the house and office, and no one could agree on wha tmight have happened  to the money. I continued to press
until my housemaid confessed. She said that the money disappeared “spiritually”. She said that a “mysterious snake” sneaked into the house and swallowed the money in the vault.”

JAMB PATNERS EFCC TO FIGHT AGAINST EXAMINATION MALPRACTICE

February 08, 2018
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has vowed to work with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to tackle exams malpractices in this year’s Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
It also stated that over 1.4 million candidates have so far registered for the 2018 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) across the country
The JAMB Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, disclosed this yesterday while receiving the acting Chairman, Ibrahim Magu.
According to Oloyede, “A total of 1,451,691 candidates had registered for the 2018 UTME, while 39,663 candidates were for the Direct Entry.
However, we currently have in our custody some people who break into our Virtual Private Network. They are creating very-small-aperture terminal in Osogbo and Ilesha, Osun State, and broadcasting across the country.
These people are young boys and girls. They are only concerned about the money they get and not about the effects of their corrupt practices.
We would cooperate with the EFCC in fighting corruption in the form of examination malpractices.
On his part, Magu assured the Registra that the commission would not spare any vice-chancellor found culpable in the investigations into alleged N5.77million furniture allowance.
We can cooperate with JAMB to fight corruption in many areas including the issue of examination malpractices. This is part of the reasons for this visit.

It is too early for me to comment on this issue (whether we are beaming our searchlight on past JAMB registrars). But we are working on it. On the vice-chancellors, we will not spare anybody,” he vowed.
